This seventh installment in Rodolphe and Maucler's French detective series brings Commissaire Raffini face to face with Les petits meurtres — "little murders" that are surely anything but. The cover sets a wonderfully atmospheric scene: a dark-hatted, sunglasses-wearing accordion player performs with open-mouthed intensity in what appears to be a bustling market hall, crowds milling in the background beneath iron archways. Published by Hugo & Cie in 2011, it's a beautifully rendered slice of French noir that fans of moody, period-flavored detective fiction will find hard to resist.
