Philippe Riche's L'Association des Cas Particuliers continues with its second volume, Neandertalensis, published by Les Humanoïdes Associés in 2008. The cover presents a striking trio — a bandaged figure, a seated man with red-tipped hair clutching a cylindrical case, and a woman in a sleeveless dress — arranged against an ornate, skull-laden background that immediately signals something strange and unsettling is afoot. Riche's clean, stylized linework gives the whole composition a cool, deadpan atmosphere that makes this association of peculiar cases feel all the more intriguing.
