I Hate Fairyland #2

Skottie Young's gleefully twisted fantasy series continues with this French-language edition from Urban Comics, subtitled Sur le Trône. The cover piles on the chaos beautifully: a thoroughly unimpressed Gertrude — green-haired, scepter in hand, book tucked under her arm — perches atop a heaving mountain of wide-eyed, googly-faced Fairyland creatures, mushroom monsters, and assorted bizarre beasties, all rendered in Young's vibrant, candy-bright palette. It's a wonderfully absurd image that captures exactly the tone of a series where an endearingly grumpy little girl refuses to play nice with a world determined to be adorable.
