Jacobs' Blake und Mortimer – Der Kampf um die Welt, and together they capture the grand, Cold War-tinged scope that made this series a cornerstone of European adventure comics. The Carlsen edition cover blazes with energy: rows of uniformed soldiers stand at attention before a looming launch tower as bright energy beams streak across a red-and-blue sky, while two familiar faces — Blake and Mortimer — look on from above. The companion Salleck Publications / Eckart Schott Verlag booklet reveals a beautifully rendered parachute drop scene, figures descending through sunlit clouds in Jacobs' meticulous ligne claire style. Collecting Parts I–III in one 2004 German-language volume, this is a fine way to experience one of Franco-Belgian comics' most ambitious adventure sagas.
