Diamond prospector Jack Parker recounts his encounter with a mysterious and most unusual friend in wild country south of Johannesburg, where he met a man and woman of peculiar qualities. After discovering what he believes to be diamond country, Parker becomes excited and careless, falling into a pit where he is attacked by a large green creature. Rescued by the man, Parker is taken to meet Ortega, who reveals he and his son are interested in the Aztec plates that Parker possesses, leading to a violent confrontation where Parker is beaten and the plates are stolen before he and his allies escape.
