The issue contains two stories: an opening tale involving police investigating a hit-and-run victim and tracking a killer on the loose in the city, with officers attempting to apprehend the suspect and prevent further violence; and "The Mad Houdini," a true crime story recounting the April 23, 1937 incident in which Joe Whelan, a wanted murderer, killed Patrolman Bill O'Brien and wounded Officer Lane during a traffic stop in Boston after Helen Arnold, whom he had taken hostage, accidentally revealed his identity to the police.
