Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #84

Part two of Warren Ellis's "Infected" storyline arrives in this July 1996 installment of Legends of the Dark Knight, with cover art by John McCrea putting Batman in a grimly striking situation — wounded, bloodied, and crouching against a graffiti-tagged brick wall while a muzzle flash erupts from a gun pointed directly at him. It's a raw, street-level image that captures Batman at his most vulnerable, cape draped around him as blood spatters the ground. Ellis and McCrea clearly weren't pulling any punches for this two-part conclusion.
