All and Sundry: Uncollected Work 2004-2009 #[nn]
Paul Hornschemeier's *All and Sundry* gathers five years of previously uncollected work into one handsome Fantagraphics volume, and the cover alone signals the range inside: a hunched, weary-looking man wielding what appears to be a cane or tool is caught mid-stumble, while a second figure tumbles away clutching a small creature, and above them both floats a loose, ghostly line-drawing of a rotund character — three completely different artistic registers sharing the same cream-and-teal canvas. A strip of vignettes running down the left spine teases further variety, from a prowling tiger to laboratory specimens to quiet domestic scenes. Hornschemeier's confident command of tone and draftsmanship across these 2004–2009 pieces makes this 2009 collection a genuinely rewarding survey of an artist unafraid to stretch in every direction.
