Africa Dreams #3
Set deep in a lush, shadow-drenched jungle, this third volume of Africa Dreams — subtitled Ce Bon Monsieur Stanley — presents two European colonials in pith helmets and white expedition dress striding forward, while armed silhouetted figures loom ominously in the dense foliage behind them. The tension between the well-lit foreground figures and those dark, watchful shadows gives Frédéric Bihel's cover an uneasy, layered atmosphere that feels entirely fitting for this colonial-era story by Maryse and Jean-François Charles. Published by Casterman in 2013, this Africa Dreams installment looks like a richly illustrated and thoughtfully crafted addition to one of French-language comics' more compelling historical series.
