With a clever trick involving the chief’s hat, a flour-and-water trap, and a crowd of determined townsfolk, Pete outwits the outlaw—though not before turning the mess into something oddly comfy.

When Major Blunder objects to Pioneer Pete being carved on the Great-Guys totem pole, his protest takes a splashy turn—literally—when he tumbles into the river. Pete, meanwhile, gets the honor of being carved and named the new chief, leaving Blunder to sigh that some days, it just doesn’t pay to leave Kentucky.
