"The Ghost-Table" is a supernatural horror story featured in Weird Tales. The narrative follows a husband who purchases an unusual antique table carved from dark Philippine wood as an anniversary gift for his wife Yvonne, obtaining it from a second-hand furniture dealer who had chained it to the floor. Upon installation in their London apartment, the table begins exhibiting disturbing nocturnal activity—producing purring sounds that escalate to thunderous thumping and crashing. Despite thorough searches revealing no intruders, furniture is overturned and displaced. The family dog and cat react with extreme distress. The mystery deepens when the table appears to move independently and, during a locked room, the family's cat is discovered fatally crushed beneath the table's predatory carved claws. Police arrive after neighbors report gunshots. The story builds tension through rational explanations that prove increasingly untenable as supernatural activity intensifies, centering on the table's malevolent agency.
