Weird Tales, Vol. VIII, No. 5

· November 1926

November 1926 Weird Tales contents: "The Peacock's Shadow" by E. Hoffmann Price opens the issue with a mystery of devil-worship and dark imagery. Pierre d'Artois and the narrator investigate a stolen Egyptian mummy from a Lyon museum, rumored hidden in a French nobleman's chateau. Discovery of a grotesque apartment filled with ancient weapons, severed heads, a book bound in human skin, and a portrait of a beautiful dead woman—the marquis's former mistress—suggests elaborate necrophilic obsession. Additional stories include "The Star Shell," a four-part scientific serial about Jupiter exploration; "The City of Spiders" by H. Warner Munn; "The Parasitic Hand" by R. Anthony; "The Creature of Man" by Oscar Cook; "The Tenth Commandment" by Victor Rousseau; "Across Space" by Edmond Hamilton (Mars disrupted by undersea beings); "The Dog-Eared God" by Frank Belknap Long Jr. on ancient Egyptian blasphemy; and works by Maria Moravsky, Robert S. Carr, and others. The issue reprints Poe's "Ligeia."
