This December 10, 1918 issue of Detective Story Magazine contains one complete novel and three seven-part serials, plus six short stories. The lead novel, "The Man with the Mole" by J. Allan Dunn, concerns Jack Sperry, a twenty-five-year-old civil engineer whose stepfather Simeon Cairns accuses him of forging a ten-thousand-dollar check drawn on the family bank account. Bank officials Hilliard and Burnside present evidence that Sperry withdrew the sum with a forged endorsement, though Sperry hotly denies the charge and claims ignorance. Cairns offers to cover the loss to protect Sperry's mother. The novel follows Sperry's efforts to prove his innocence. The serials in progress are "The Man Who Awoke" (part three) by Mary Imlay Taylor, "The Shrieking Pit" (part four) by Arthur J. Rea, and "The Winning Clew" (part seven, concluding) by James Hay Jr. Six additional short stories complete the issue.
