Microcopy Resolution Test Chart (ANSI and ISO Test Chart No. 2)

· Applied Image Inc., Rochester, New York

This image is not a pulp magazine cover. It is a Microcopy Resolution Test Chart — a calibration target produced by Applied Image Inc. of Rochester, New York, used to evaluate the optical resolution of microfilm and microfiche reproduction systems. The numbered bar patterns (1.0 through 4.5 line pairs per millimeter) allow technicians to assess image sharpness across a reproduced frame. Its presence here indicates that the source material — The Shadow of the Mosque (1920), a tale set in occupied Mesopotamia — was preserved on microform, and this chart was photographed at the head of the reel as a quality-control reference. No pulp cover art is visible in this frame.
