# The Schuylkill Rangers; or, The Bride of Valley Forge
A historical fiction set during the American Revolutionary War at Valley Forge in 1777. The narrative opens with a New Year's Day feast organized by the Schuylkill Rangers, a patriot scout unit. The story centers on Zeke Hunter, the Rangers' one-handed leader (his right hand severed at Lexington), and Lieutenant Harvey Osgood.
Mrs. Meredith, a Philadelphia widow supplying the patriot camp with medicines and provisions, arrives with her daughter Laura and son Frank. A romantic subplot develops between Laura and Osgood, noted by the gruff but kindhearted soldier Dan Disbrow.
Mrs. Meredith recounts her dangerous journey delivering chickens and fowl through British lines. Hunter employed deception against approaching British soldiers, fabricating stories of hidden American forces to protect the provisions and safely deliver supplies to Valley Forge. The narrative emphasizes patriotic sacrifice, the soldiers' hardships, and civilian support for Washington's cause.
