# Silverspur; Or, The Mountain Heroine
This Edward Willett frontier adventure serial follows Fred Wilder, nicknamed Silverspur by Native Americans, a well-dressed mountain man trader living in St. Louis. A grizzled, distinctively scarred hunter named Old Blaze searches for Silverspur with news that his Blackfoot friend White Shield has been killed by hostile Blackfeet and left crucial information before dying: the Indian girl Dove-eye, whom Silverspur believed dead, survives—now a fierce warrior fighting with the Crows against the Arapahoes in full war-paint.
Learning Dove-eye lives, Silverspur and Old Blaze prepare to return westward. While traveling back to rejoin their trapping party near Fort Laramie, an accident wounds Old Blaze when he falls on his own knife. A large body of Indians then appears behind them. Silverspur proposes using the creek as cover while he draws the pursuers away, running ahead toward Devil's Gap where their companions wait.
