# The Quartzville Boss: Daring David Darke
This serial adventure by Edward Willett follows two young prospectors, Albert Otis and David Darke, who operate in the American West. When Otis pretends to accept a commission from the villain Arkansas Pete Bolger to kidnap a young woman from a passing train, he secretly intends to rescue her instead. Darke agrees to help. Meanwhile, the train carrying the intended victim—the fair-haired Mabel Vintrey, traveling to join her father—is guided deliberately off course by the hired guide Sam Spurl. The beardless but determined trainman Phil Henning ("Fearless Phil") suspects treachery and confronts both Spurl and train leader John Hackett about the deviation. When Spurl attacks Phil in anger, the young man draws his revolver. The narrative combines Western action elements with schemes of deception and heroic intervention.
