# Tom, the Texan Tiger

This installment of "Tom, the Texan Tiger" by Oll Coomes features a prairie merchant train led by Daniel Walden and his daughter Jacquetta crossing Western Texas toward the Colorado River. Walden previously dismissed his young scout Tom Brayton out of fear he loved Jacquetta; Brayton subsequently became the notorious outlaw "Tiger Tom." An intercepted carrier pigeon reveals an ambush planned for Walden's party at the river crossing. Meanwhile, Jacquetta and her companion Irene ride ahead and reach the Colorado, where Jacquetta ventures onto quicksands. A Comanche warrior emerges to attack her, but a mysterious ranger—revealed to be a skilled swordsman with a tiger emblem—intercepts and defeats the savage in combat, saving the girl from both the quicksands and the warrior's lance.
