Beadle's Pocket Library No. 156

· January 5, 1887

This issue of Beadle's Dime Novels contains "Will Wildfire in the Woods: Camp Life in the Alleghanies" by Charles Morris, author of numerous dime-novel serials. The first chapter opens with an archery competition among genteel company on the East Meadows, where Clara Moreland excels with a near-perfect shot. Will Wildfire arrives late and, while drawing his bow to shoot, is fired upon by an unseen assassin. He returns fire with his arrow and pursues the attacker into the thicket. A second section shifts to Cherry Hill prison in Philadelphia, revealing Mark Preston, a small-framed inmate plotting revenge against Will Wildfire for robbing him of fortune, bride, and liberty. Preston receives a pardon. The narrative blends aristocratic social scenes with frontier adventure and criminal conspiracy, with romance and action as primary elements.
