· June 5, 1895

"The Man from Boston at Paradise Park" by Wm. R. Eyster, continuing from Chapter II ("The Stem-Winder") and into Chapter III ("Captain Hurt's Toll-Gath"), appears to be a Western serial adventure. The narrative follows a stagecoach journey from the Bunco diggings toward Paradise Camp, carrying passengers including the genteel Mrs. Mowrey and her inept escort Harold. When station agent Bob Watt refuses to load Mrs. Mowrey's trunks, a mysterious gunslinger called Stemwinder Saul intervenes, shooting Watt (creasing rather than killing him) and forcing compliance. The coach then encounters masked road agents led by Captain Hurt who conduct a methodical robbery, collecting contributions from each passenger at gunpoint. Harold Mowrey surrenders his silver purse without apparent fear, displaying peculiar composure despite his stammering affect.
