# Catalog Note

Beadle's Half-Dime Library No. 692 (1892) features "The Mountain Spy's Vendetta" by Wm. H. Manning. The opening serial installment depicts scouts Turkey Todd and Dead-Shot Paul (Pathfinder Paul), veteran bordermen in the far Northwest, as they encounter a precarious situation. Having deliberately avoided an encounter with members of Golf Harmer's gang of murderous pseudo-lumbermen, the scouts witness a woman with a revolver defending a fallen-log bridge against an unnamed antagonist. Detective Dave Ashmead then appears seeking their assistance in capturing an alleged murderess fleeing into the wilderness. Despite internal misgivings, Paul devises a plan: lasso specialist Sim Ames successfully captures the woman from the cliff above. Paul observes her composed demeanor with growing interest and resolves to visit Ashmead's camp, curious about the captive's true nature and circumstances.
