# "The Lost Gold of the Big Horn" By William G. Patten

This western adventure serial follows three fortune-hunters searching for the legendary Lost Gold Placer in Wyoming's Big Horn Mountains. Montana Jim, a weathered prospector of fifty-five, leads the party alongside Handy Harry (Cy Harrison), a skilled gambler and card-sharp known for his aptitude with "the papers," and the enigmatic Silent Seth, whose mysterious past and constant gloom suggest financial ruin or ecclesiastical disgrace. The three establish a mountain camp near a stream, their hopes of striking wealth tempered by the hostile territory they occupy. During the night watch, Montana Jim hears suspicious sounds near the camp but finds nothing upon investigation. Handy Harry, taking the second watch, dismisses Jim's warning as nerves until he too hears phantom-like noises. The narrative suggests mysterious prowlers near their camp, with the promise of developing danger.
