# Catalog Note

The Sea Scouts of Seventy-Six, a romance by Col. Prentiss Ingraham, dominates this issue. The serial begins with the mystery of the "Silver Ship"—actually the Wind Witch, a fast British royal brig sent by the king to retrieve buried treasure from the Caribbean. The vessel vanishes; a sea captain reports sighting it crewed by skeletons before it vanishes into mist. Chapter II shifts to pirate Captain Belmont, commanding the schooner Blue Belt, who discovers a wrecked Mexican barque loaded with silver pesos. The dying Spanish commander's log reveals the vessel was under attack and sinking. Belmont's crew rapidly transfers the treasure to their schooner and flee, with Belmont declaring he will abandon piracy. The narrative weaves together naval adventure, buried treasure, the supernatural, and the American colonial period, mixing maritime action with Gothic elements.
