This issue of the pulp weekly contains "The Rocky Racket at Rough Robin," serialized by Joseph E. Badger Jr., author of "Laughing Leo" and other frontier tales. The opening chapters introduce Daniel Goodykoontz, an immigrant from Spitzenberg seeking work in the mining country, and English Sparrow, a wiry, bird-like desperado serving as sexton of Rough Robin. When Goodykoontz arrives wearing traditional German wooden shoes and carrying a carved porcelain pipe, Sparrow deliberately leads him into the town's saloon district, where rough miners target him for mockery—shooting his pipe from his mouth and forcing him to dance as shots crack around his feet. The narrative follows Goodykoontz's arrival in this lawless frontier town and his immediate entanglement in the coarse horseplay of its inhabitants.
