# The Pirate Prince: Or, Pretty Nelly, the Queen of the Isle
Col. Prentiss Ingraham's serial adventure novel, published June 1901 in Beadle & Adams periodical, depicts a dramatic maritime pursuit in Caribbean waters. On a hidden island harbor, an aging pirate captain and his son Rafael—a young man educated in the United States who now questions his corsair heritage—prepare to sail. Rafael reluctantly swears to hunt down their sworn enemy before abandoning piracy. Meanwhile, aboard the merchant brig Sunbeam, the lovely eighteen-year-old Mabel Markham travels to reunite with her naval officer father when a pursuing schooner—the notorious buccaneer vessel Curse of the Coast, captained by Rafael—reveals its black flag and blood-red anchor. As the brig attempts evasion through shifting false flags and preparations for battle, the young maiden refuses to retreat below deck, choosing to remain with her defenders during the impending conflict.
