· August 6, 1878

# Catalog Note

This issue No. 7 of Beadle's Dime Novels contains The Warrior Princess: The Pride of the Everglades by W. J. Hamilton. Set in 1539 Florida, the narrative begins with the arrival of Hernando de Soto's Spanish fleet at Tampa Bay. The opening introduces Vitachuco, a Seminole cacique, and Ozemba, a warrior princess of exceptional beauty who fights alongside him despite mysterious hints of Spanish heritage. As the pair observe eleven Spanish ships approaching the coast, Vitachuco mobilizes the region's Native tribes against the invaders, dispatching messengers to allied chieftains. De Soto, landing with his best soldiers, issues orders to avoid violence until his authority is established, while revealing his intent to employ a purchased Indian guide. The narrative develops conflict between Spanish colonization and indigenous resistance.
