# Catalog Note

"Poker Pete's Double Dodge; or, The Close Call" by William R. Eyster is the featured serial in this 1893 issue of Beadle and Adams' dime novel. The Western adventure follows two young vigilantes, "Little Clean Grit" and Mike, known as the "Hustler Rogue-Catchers" for their success eliminating the outlaw gang of Captain Kill near the mining camp of Pay Dirt. When an assassination attempt targets Clean Grit during a public ceremony honoring the boys, suspicion falls on Kill, believed dead but possibly still alive. Convinced the outlaw will strike the treasure coach departing with accumulated gold, the boys secure horses from Poker Pete to pursue and protect the shipment. The narrative emphasizes action and narrow escapes, establishing a larger plot involving kidnapped prisoners, Eastern inheritance claims, and uncertain loyalties among camp residents.
