# Ajax, the Infant Giant

This 1892 Beadle and Adams pulp weekly presents "Kit Bandy Rattled: The Infant Giant," by Oll Coomes, an adventure serial set in Montana's wilderness. The narrative follows four amateur hunters—Frank Damon, Dick Randall, Bob Boscobel, and Perry Thorne—on an expedition when they are ambushed by Indians. Damon is shot and separated from the party during a panicked flight through a dark canyon. The remaining three attempt rescue, establishing surveillance of a nearby Indian village. Their reconnaissance is interrupted when they witness two simultaneous silent hand-to-hand combat encounters rolling downhill toward their hiding spot. The combatants prove to be two mountain men: Ajax, a titan-sized character called the Infant Giant, and Tom Rattler, a colorful frontier scout. Both have been independently tracking the Indians. The men recognize each other, exchange preliminary accounts, and plan to withdraw deeper into the hills while discussing their respective missions.
