Beadle's Half Dime Library, No. 787

· August 23, 1892

This issue of Deadwood Dick, Jr. by Ed. L. Wheeler features "The Prince of Pistol Pocket," a Western serial adventure. Richard Bristol, alias Deadwood Dick Jr., and his wife Kate (Kodak Kate) return incognito to Pistol Pocket, the mining settlement Bristol claims to own. They register at the Grand Pacific Hotel under the assumed name Willard Marblehead. Almost immediately upon arrival, they learn that Bristol's bank has been robbed and its cashier, Joel Bordwell, has been murdered with a blunt instrument. The safe was emptied of thousands of dollars. Sir Clyde Carleton, the town's mayor and Bristol's manager, proclaims a five-thousand-dollar reward for the murderer's capture. No witnesses or clear evidence exists, and the perpetrator appears to have escaped undetected, leaving the crime a complete mystery as the chapter concludes.
