Beadle's Half Dime Library, No. 752

· December 22, 1891

This issue of Beadle's dime novel magazine (December 22, 1891) contains "The Little Last Chance," by Ed. L. Wheeler, author of the "Deadwood Dick" series. The story begins with two miners—the red-bearded Adam Tablet and his younger, frail brother Willie—traveling toward the mining camp of Last Chance when they're stopped at gunpoint by Dominick Draper, a guard protecting Jim Fiddler's claim. Draper explains that the young Jim Fiddler now controls the territory after his father discovered gold there years ago; Fiddler and hired men block the trail to prevent claim-jumpers from following him while he searches for the buried treasure. When Adam proposes they be blindfolded and guided through, the captain of the guard arrives to negotiate. The conversation explores whether trust can be established between the parties.
