Beadle's Half Dime Library, No. 751

· December 15, 1891

This issue of Beadle and Adams' dime novel features "Gold-Dust Dan, or Wiping Out Old Nick's Nine," a Montana mining-country adventure by John W. Osborn. The serial opens with young prospector-vigilante Gold-Dust Dan discovering a masked nine-man gang preparing to ambush a stagecoach. He attempts to warn the stage driver, Jehu Johnny Morgan, but is himself nearly killed by outlaw Sargeant Sly until mountain scout Ozark Oll intervenes. Oll, positioning himself to cover the ambush, is struck down from behind before engaging. Meanwhile, Morgan, forewarned by the station boss, departs with passengers including the colonel's seventeen-year-old daughter Winnie Moulton (who rides the driver's box), a cowardly minister, and two miners. Morgan harbors misgivings about Winnie's father, a ruthless mining magnate. The narrative emphasizes action, frontier codes, and dramatic jeopardy.
