# Catalog Note

The Scout in His Double Role by Oll Coomes features Donald Barr, a young scout operating across the Colorado plains and mountains. Barr carries sensitive valuables—currently five thousand dollars in bank notes—for local ranchers while also assisting in criminal detection. His reputation for dagger-throwing has earned him the name "Dagger Don," but rumors circulate that he is actually "Red Dagger," an outlaw plaguing the region. Millie Rodman, daughter of Colonel Allen Rodman, meets Barr clandestinely despite her father's disapproval and Horace Davenport's financial courtship. During a morning rendezvous, a masked robber appears demanding Barr's money. Millie flees to the ranch reporting Barr's apparent death. However, Uncle Rufus later hints that Barr survived. Millie arranges a midnight grave-exhumation with the elderly servant to identify the buried body, suspecting the dead man is not her lover.
