Little Lightning's Invincibles: A Romance of Yellow Dust City by John W. Osborn continues in this issue. The story opens in the Monumental saloon at Yellow Dust mining camp, where the youth "Little Lightning" witnesses a confrontation between rough miners Rico Rube and Peet Brown, who drag in a ragged tramp named Old Bill Williams found lurking near their quarters. Marshal Red Pepper orders Williams expelled. Little Lightning intervenes, declaring Williams honest and threatening the marshal, introducing himself as an accomplished gunfighter. Mayor Gideon Grim arrives and, moved by both Williams's claims of mining ambitions and Little Lightning's vouching, grants the tramp a chance. The narrative establishes tensions between the mysterious gambler Major Menace, local authorities, and the young protagonist who champions the underdog.
