# "The Unknown Scout: The Selectest Princencess" by Buffalo Bill

This serial western follows the outlaw bandit chief "Captain Henrico" and his "Branded Brotherhood"—a multiethnic camp of deserters, half-breeds, and hired men including a Sioux scout and a enslaved cook named Buttermilk. Planning to ambush an unguarded wagon train, the chief dispatches scouts to locate both the train and cavalry troopers. That night, a mysterious skilled horseman called "the Unknown Scout" or "Deadly-Eye" approaches the camp and shoots two sentinels dead from horseback before fleeing across the moonlit prairie, pursued by fifty bandits but eluding them easily on his superior mount, Prairie Gull. The Unknown Scout—a handsome, long-haired man of twenty-seven armed with revolvers, bow, and knife—observes several horsemen crossing the moon's face and pursues them toward a timbered grove, encountering them directly under the darkness of the trees.
