# Museum Catalog Note
This pulp western serial, "Glass-Eye, the Great Shot of the West" by Capt. J. F. C. Adams, opens with Rosa Beckwith, a young woman traveling with a wagon-train to Upper California, becoming lost on the prairie after riding ahead of her party. Pursued by a Sioux warrior who lassoes her, Rosa escapes when the Indian suddenly falls dead—apparently shot, though the shooter remains unknown. A mysterious white horseman subsequently appears on the prairie, approaching Rosa with rough frontier dialect and manner. The narrative emphasizes chase scenes, frontier peril, and the introduction of the enigmatic marksman whose deadly accuracy suggests the "Glass-Eye" of the title. The story combines romantic elements (Rosa's appearance, her distressed circumstances) with action typical of dime-novel westerns: horseback pursuits, Indian encounters, and narrowly averted capture.
