# Deadwood Dick's Bonanza

This installment of Edward L. Wheeler's serial features Deadwood Dick, the reformed outlaw, arriving in Eureka, a prosperous silver- and gold-mining town nestled in Idaho's Salmon River mountains. Accompanied by his garrulous older partner Old Avalanche and introducing himself as Nedward Harris, Dick enters The Man-Trap saloon and gambling den. A shooting competition ensues with Noisy Nell, the saloon's attractive young shooting-gallery operator, and the brutal miner Buckskin. Old Avalanche performs tall tales of frontier marksmanship; Dick then demonstrates extraordinary skill, firing twenty-four successive bullets that strike the same exact spot on the bull's-eye, winning the valuable Big Bonanza mine from Red Brand, its reluctant owner. A mysterious young woman warns Dick that Carlos Cambre, a deserter and renegade from his former outlaw band, now hunts him in Eureka with hostile intent.
