# Catalog Note: The Argosy, Volume XXII (July-December 1876)
This issue of The Argosy, edited by Mrs. Henry Wood, contains serialized fiction, short stories, and poetry. The primary serial is "Edina" by Wood, author of East Lynne, continuing with chapters on the Raynor family's domestic circumstances at Christmas. The narrative centers on the contrast between the comfortable life at Eagles' Nest, where the family celebrates the holidays, and the deteriorating conditions on the estate: laborers' dwellings fall into disrepair, a building project begun by the previous owner remains abandoned, and the current Major Raynor, constrained by debt and lack of means, provides no charitable assistance. A secondary serial, "Johnny Ludlow's Papers," appears with contributions from multiple authors. The issue includes numerous short stories and poems by various hands, such as pieces by Charles W. Wood and contributors including Mrs. G. Linnaeus Banks. Illustrations accompany the serialized works by M. Ellen Edwards and A.C.H. Luxmoore.
