# Volume XIX of The Argosy, January to June 1875

This bound collection, edited by Mrs. Henry Wood, contains three major serials. A Secret of the Sea (illustrated by Arthur Hopkins), by the author of "In the Dead of Night," opens in the office of attorney Matthew Kelvin in Pembridge, Hertfordshire, where his young clerk Pod encounters Kelvin in possession of a secret regarding Miss Eleanor and a revelation connected to someone named Jacob Lloyd. The narrative establishes Kelvin as a prosperous, socially prominent lawyer living with his invalid mother—a former Miss Barbara Carstairs who eloped with his father despite her family connection to the gentry.

Parkwater, by the author of "East Lynne," follows household drama and suspicion involving figures including Captain Devereux and Sophia.

The volume also includes Johnny Ludlow's Papers—several linked stories including "Charles Van Rheyn" and "Margaret Rymer"—alongside numerous short stories, poems by Christina G. Rossetti and others, and illustrated articles on subjects including Knebworth House and Welsh scenery.
