# With Cossack and Convict: A Tale of Far Siberia

By William Murray Graydon

This serialized adventure novel (Volume XIII, No. 464; October 24, 1891) continues in Chapter XIV with escaped convict Pierre Valbort recruiting protagonist Donald after orchestrating a prison break. Valbort leads a band of escaped convicts conducting raids along Siberia's post roads. They abduct General Tichimiroff's daughter Varia, whose kidnapping prompts Captain Andre Dagmar's assignment to escort a convoy of two million rubles in czarist gold from Irkutsk westward to Russia. Meanwhile, Valbort guides his twenty-five men—many suspected members of Russia's "Terrorists" organization—through treacherous mountain terrain to their hidden riverside stronghold. The girl has been sent ahead. Dagmar anticipates restoration to his former St. Petersburg position upon successful completion of the dangerous journey.
