This issue of The Argosy features the serialized novel "Train and Station; or, The Rambles of a Young Railroader" by Edgar R. Hoadley, Jr., continuing from the previous week's installment. In Chapter V, protagonist Dash learns from his grandfather that his stepfather was not his biological father and that his grandfather never knew his mother's maiden name. The grandfather recounts how Dash's biological father abandoned his first fiancée Lily Woodbridge for a widow with a child, eventually dying in a railroad wreck. Dash discovers an address in St. Louis where his father once stayed. In Chapter VI, Dash seeks employment, initially pursuing various positions without success, then attempting to secure a Naval Academy cadetship through competitive examination. Though he excels academically, his slight vision defect bars his entry, forcing him toward railroad work.
