This is Part II of "Station X" by G. McLeod Winsor, a science fiction serial appearing in Amazing Stories. The story concerns Alan Macrae, a radio operator sent to a secret British military station on a Pacific island. After discovering two bodies (Lieutenant Wilson and the Chinese cook Ling, apparently murdered), Macrae receives mysterious radio transmissions from a "Venetian"—an inhabitant of Venus communicating scientific information. Found unconscious at Station X, Macrae recovers in London with an extraordinary tale corroborated by his diary and notes.
The government enlists the skeptical but open-minded Professor Stanley Rudge, a prominent scientist who investigates psychic phenomena and believes in extraterrestrial life. Rudge becomes convinced of Macrae's account and demands he return to Station X for confirmation. Despite offers of money and fame, Macrae refuses, haunted by unexplained dread. Rudge persuades Macrae's sweetheart, May Treherne, a well-educated typist, to encourage his participation. The narrative explores the emerging tension between scientific investigation and psychological resistance.
