# A TRIP TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (Serial, 2nd Part) By Jules Verne
This June 1926 issue of Amazing Stories continues Verne's serialized novel, with Professor Barigoule, his nephew Harry, and guide Hans descending into Iceland's Mount Sneffels toward Earth's interior. Part II finds the explorers at a junction of four subterranean tunnels at 12:17 PM on July 2nd. The professor selects the eastern passage without hesitation.
The narrative describes their journey through increasingly constricted galleries—first resembling Gothic cathedral aisles with Roman-style arches, then narrowing into cramped beaver-hole-like passages they must crawl through. Harry contemplates the terrifying heat the molten lava must have produced during the volcano's eruptions. After six miles of arduous travel (one mile downward), they halt for the evening with minimal bedding. The OCR becomes unclear at narrative's end regarding night watch arrangements.
