This issue of Adventure (July 10, 1925) contains three complete novelettes and several shorter pieces across adventure and Western genres. "Paid Off" by Walter J. Coburn follows cowboys Shorty Carroway and Tad Ladd through Montana mining country: after Shorty defeats the local champion in a brutal saloon brawl over insults to his pony, both men are arrested by the sheriff. They learn of a mysterious, frightening figure named Luther Fox, whose mere mention disturbs the sheriff profoundly. Other contents include "El Carcel" by John Murray Reynolds (Central American revolution), "The Bold Dragoon" (four-part series, part one, by Leonard H. Nason, set in 1753 Bavaria), "Good Pay" by Royce Brier (Western desert judgment), "Captain Noah Takes Command" by Fairfax Downey (Atlantic Ocean adventure with unusual cargo), and "King of the Beachcombers" by Frederick Moore (South Seas). The issue also features verse, articles on frontier food and historical topics, and reader services.
