# Catalog Note
This issue of Adventure (August 3, 1918) contains fiction across multiple genres and settings. The lead novelette "Alamut" by H. A. Lamb follows Khlit of the Curved Saber, an aging Cossack warrior, into the Central Asian stronghold of Alamut, ruled by a mysterious figure claiming prophetic power who extracts tribute from wealthy cities. Khlit encounters a Tatar soldier named Toctamish and a woman of uncertain nationality in a Syrian armorer's shop; conflict and tension ensue. Complementing adventure fiction are Westerns including "Hip Shootin'" (Earl Earns), featuring sheriff Bill Doble pursuing outlaw Buck Saunders, and "Throw It Over on John" (Hugh Fullerton), set on disputed timberland in Michigan. "The Great God Ananzi" (Stephen Chalmers) depicts commercial conflict over Caribbean banana trade through the eyes of trader Hambridge and native superstition. War-related content includes a four-part serial "For the Flag" (Thomas Addison, Part III) involving German conspiracies, and various shorter pieces. Additional fare spans humor, aviation, and colonial adventure.
