# A String of Pearls: Second Book of the Faith-Promoting Series
This 1882 volume collects testimonial narratives by Latter-day Saint missionaries and Church members. "Among the Poncas," by W.C.S., recounts a missionary's experience with the Ponca Indians during westward migration, detailing buffalo hunts, severe illness, Ponca customs, and a dramatic wolf-surrounded journey. "Anecdotes of Elder Grant" presents three chapters of incidents involving the elder's rhetorical victories in debates with Baptist ministers and a particularly triumphant confrontation on "War Hill" where Grant defeated multiple ministerial opponents. Additional pieces include "Missionary Incidents," documenting proselytizing efforts and theological debates; "Journey Across the Plains," describing encounters with Indians and miraculous ice survival; "Story of a Hat" and other brief anecdotes about answered prayers and divine provision; "Cases of Miraculous Healing" among Indian converts; and "A Prophecy and Its Fulfillment." The collection emphasizes faith-affirming experiences meant to inspire younger Church members, with narrative focus on doctrinal debates, spiritual manifestations, and providential interventions.
