This is Beadle's Dime Union Song Book No. 3, a wartime songbook published in 1861 compiled by Beadle and Company. The collection comprises approximately 80 patriotic songs supporting the Union cause during the Civil War. Most are anonymous or credited to period composers and musicians; Robert M. Hart is attributed to "The Great Union Club." The songs address martial themes—soldiers, volunteers, drummers, Zouaves—and celebrate the American flag, the Union, liberty, and Lincoln, while condemning secession and treason. Representative titles include "Union Forever," "Draw the Sword, Northland," "The Flag and the Union," and "Summons to the North," which references immigrant soldiers (Irish, German, Italian, Hungarian) fighting for the Union. Others address home, mothers' prayers, and sacrifice. Recurring imagery involves the stars-and-stripes flag, eagles, and appeals to patriotic duty and divine favor for the Northern cause.
