# Cymrodorion Transactions: Vol. VII, Fourth Series (1876)
This scholarly journal issue contains articles on Welsh antiquities and medieval history. Featured articles include G. G. Francis's memoir of Henry de Gower, fourteenth-century Bishop of St. David's, who is compared to William of Wykeham for his architectural and ecclesiastical projects. The memoir details de Gower's founding of a hospital in Swansea in 1330 to support infirm priests and poor laymen, with funding from Alianora de Mowbray. The text reproduces de Gower's Latin charter of hospital foundation, which names specific properties assigned in perpetual alms and notes the symbolic significance of six chaplains.
Concurrent articles by J. Y. W. Lloyd examine the history of the Lordship of Maelor Gymraeg; I. O. Westwood analyzes early inscribed and sculptured Welsh stones; and other contributors discuss specific antiquities including the Stackpool sites, Porthkerry Church, an Ogham stone at Little Trefgame, and Haverfordwest Castle. The volume includes architectural studies of Welsh castles—Tretower, Grosmont, Skenfrith, and Whitecastle—and concludes with a report of the Abergavenny meeting.
