A Hand-Book To the Game-Birds Vol. 2
William Robert Ogilvie-Grant (1863-1924) · 1896
# Catalog Note
This issue of Lloyd's Natural History contains the second volume of W. R. Ogilvie-Grant's comprehensive handbook on game-birds, edited by R. Bowdler Sharpe. The work catalogues all remaining species of the order Gallinæ, supplemented by descriptions of the Hoatzin and Bustard-Quails. Descriptions are based on specimens held in the British Museum collection. Two species are described for the first time: Whitehead's Bustard-Quail from the Philippines and Cholmley's See-See Partridge from the Sudan and Red Sea region. The volume includes systematic taxonomic index and colored plates illustrating species including pheasants, peacocks, jungle-fowl, turkeys, curassows, guans, and other game-birds. Individual entries provide detailed plumage descriptions and measurements for adult males and females of each species, along with geographic ranges. The featured opening text describes the Cheer Pheasant (Catreus wallichi) of the Himalayas with specific coloration and dimension details.
