Raulo Cáceres
Francisco Raúl Cáceres Anillo, known professionally as Raulo Cáceres, was born on February 20, 1976, in Spain. He is best known for his long-running collaboration with Avatar Press, where he provided the artwork for a number of series written by Warren Ellis. Cáceres’s style—detailed, moody, and often gruesome—made him a natural fit for horror and dark fantasy, and he became a regular contributor to the publisher’s most intense titles. His credits as artist, inker, and occasionally writer span over forty issues between 2002 and 2021, with his most frequent work appearing on *Elizabeth Bathory*, *The Extinction Parade*, and its sequel *The Extinction Parade: War*, as well as *Crossed Badlands*, *Crossed Psychopath*, and *Gravel*. These projects often paired him with Ellis, but he also worked with other writers in Avatar’s stable. Cáceres’s later career saw him continue to produce covers and interior art for the publisher, though his output slowed after the mid-2010s. While he never received major industry awards, his visceral, unflinching art earned a dedicated following among fans of extreme horror comics. He remains a significant figure in the modern Avatar Press lineup, remembered for bringing a European sensibility to American-style shock and gore.
