José-Luis Munuera
José-Luis Munuera was born on 21 April 1972 in Lorca, in the Murcia region of Spain. He is best known as the artist who, alongside writer Jean-David Morvan, helmed the classic *Spirou et Fantasio* series from 2004 to 2008. His work on the title honored the spirit of André Franquin’s graphical style while introducing subtle manga-inspired modernism. Munuera and Morvan also wove in background elements and secondary characters from the entire history of the series, not just Franquin’s era.
Munuera is also the artist behind the children’s comic *Nävis*, a spin-off of Philippe Buchet’s science-fiction series *Wake*. His credits span 78 issues from 1999 to 2025, with his most frequent titles including *Nävis*, *Zorglub*, and the *Konvooi* series. He has worked as an artist, inker, and writer across these projects.
Later in his career, Munuera continued to contribute to European comics, maintaining a steady output. While he has not received major awards widely noted in English-language sources, his work on *Spirou et Fantasio* and *Nävis* has solidified his reputation as a versatile artist capable of balancing tradition with fresh influences. His legacy lies in his ability to respectfully update a beloved classic while carving out his own niche in children’s science fiction.
